ABOUT THE ATLAS

Independent by design.

Alpine Discovery Atlas is an independent educational publication about science, technology, engineering, craft and innovation in the Alpine region. It is not a travel guide, a shop, or a promotional channel.

01 What this is

Alpine Discovery Atlas documents remarkable places, machines, institutions and traditions of the Alpine region — primarily Switzerland and Liechtenstein, with selected coverage of Austria and Germany. Each discovery is presented as a researched profile: what it is, why it matters, how it works, who stands behind it, and whether you can experience it yourself.

The atlas launched with fifteen in-depth profiles. We deliberately publish few, deep pages rather than many thin ones: every profile is written from cited public sources and carries a visible last-reviewed date.

02 Independence

The atlas is independent and non-commercial. It carries no advertising, no affiliate links, no sponsorships and no paid placements of any kind — and it will continue to do so.

Crucially: inclusion in the atlas is editorial only. Nothing here is an endorsement, and no organisation listed has been asked for, or has given, support, approval or sponsorship. Organisations described as "leading", "famous" or "successful" are described because public sources support it, not because they paid for the adjective. Errors and omissions remain ours alone.

03 How we research

Every profile is compiled from reliable public sources — official organisational websites, institutional publications, established media and reference works — which are linked at the end of each profile. We do not fabricate figures, dates or specifications; where a fact could not be confirmed from an authoritative source, we either omit it or mark it clearly as reported or approximate.

Technical descriptions explain principles rather than marketing claims. Illustrations on this site are original schematic artworks created for the atlas; they are stylised technical illustrations, not photographs of real facilities, and are labelled as such.

04 Privacy

This website is fully static. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics or tracking, includes no third-party trackers, and collects no personal data. External fonts are loaded from Google Fonts; apart from that request, your visit stays between you and the server hosting the site.

05 Corrections

Care is taken with every fact, but a project of this scope is never finished. If you spot an error, an outdated visitor detail, or a source that deserves inclusion, the atlas welcomes correction — accuracy outranks pride. A list of items flagged for re-verification accompanies the launch documentation.
